What is Telehealth?
Telehealth uses HIPPA-secure video conferencing platforms (e.g. Zoom for Healthcare, VSEE, Doxy.me) to allow therapists and their clients to work together virtually. Telehealth allows for lots of fexibility, as it allows the client to work with a therapist from the comfort and privacy of the client’s choosing. Participating in therapy from a place more familiar to you can reate comfort and make it easier for some to make the changes they are wanting to make.
To improve your experience using telehealth, I recommend the following tips:
Prior to your telehealth therapy session, try to find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed or overheard (i.e. bedroom, home office, parked car, etc).
Try to prepare your space prior to your session. Think about bringing a blanket or pillow for comfort, bring water for hydration, and tissues (just in case).
If possible, use a white noise machine, small fan, or set up a speaker with music playing outside the door so that family members/roommates cannot overhear your conversation.
Consider using headphones or earbuds plugged into your device to improve sound quality and maintain privacy.
